Daylight Saving Time

Tomorrow I fly into Chicago for work. It is fun to work in a different city, even if it is 26 degrees there. Late this afternoon, Scott and I took the dog for a walk to the pier. The temperature was probably 70 degrees, it was cloudless, and everything and everyone seemed to be celebrating the extra hour of light bestowed upon us by the powers that be that decide to move the clocks ahead for Daylight Saving Time. (editorial note: it is not called Daylight Savings Time). A cacophonous choir of green parrots sang their praises of the longer daylight. The showboat seagulls swooped in less than graceful arcs over the energetic ocean. Surfers paddled out over and over again as if it were noon, not 6 p.m. The pier was full of families fishing, couples watching the surfers and joggers enjoying the perfect temperature. People were still lounging on the beach. I think everyone was thinking, “It really is only five, not six”.

Yesterday Andy moved out. We collectively had had enough of each other and although we had to give him the news that it was time to go, I think he was in agreement. Now, for the first time, we have the house to ourselves. Andy moved in five months before Mikayla went away to school. Scott and I are enjoying having the house to ourselves. I like not having to worry anymore about Andy’s whereabouts, Andy’s actions, etc. I think I got much too involved in trying to help him. I only wish him the best and hope things work out for him.
