Coming Home

Hooray!! Mikayla is flying home tonight. She is so excited to come home. Two of her college buddies are coming down on the weekend to spend time in the sun (although they are predicting thunderstorms this weekend). Even though it may be cloudy and a little wet, I know these young women will feel like they are on vacation the minute they see a palm tree. The smell of the ocean will infect them, entering their bloodstream and loosening the bunched up study knots in their shoulders. The rain will clear and a sparkley patina will beautify everything, leaving little mirrors on leaves and in the dents of the road to reflect the welcomed sun. Then Mikayla can walk them the three short blocks from our house to the beach where they can listen to the squawky soliloquy of the seagulls, feel the warm breeze sprinkled with salt and sink their toes in the cool, sugary sand.

San Diego is where I live, but I sometimes go days without seeing the ocean as I am lock-step stuck in my daily routines.

It is time to go to the airport and greet my independent daughter. I'm smiling just thinking of it.
