Today was the first time I played a softball game with the team from work that I joined. That's right, me, who hates to watch sports on TV, has never shown an interest in sports of any kind, barely knows the rules and have never played. My main objective was to not embarrass myself in front of my coworkers. I was playing outfield and every time a batter came up to the plate, I fervently hoped he or she would not hit the ball in my direction. What if it was a fly ball and I missed? What if I had to chase it down and couldn't throw it in? Yikes! The only time I had to actually use my glove was when a grounder came my way. I successfully stopped it and threw it in, which stopped the other team from advancing too far.
I got up to bat three times. We are in a league that plays 3-pitch, where you pitch to your own team. Each time I got up to bat, I got on first base. Twice I got to run home. It is exhilarating! I really had fun. We lost, but weren't beat as bad as last week's game, which I missed. Closing the point spread made us all feel better. I hope next time we get more goals...I mean runs...than this week.
