The Three Month Hump and Three More Things

Ben has been gone three months and 5 days. My missing him has increased to a tangible feeling. I could feel it in my chest and my gut. When I got through to him by phone, he said he had a hard week because he felt very "nostalgic"which means homesick. I told him that I really missed him. There is something about three months. For both of us the excitement of him being away and having adventures has worn off. We now need to soldier on through the next several months. Maybe after the new year, when I can say he is coming home "this summer" instead of "next year" it won't seem as long. Then the excitement can build, the light at the end of the tunnel will continually grow from a pinpoint to full daylight and the count will be a countdown to the day he returns instead of a count up of how many months he has been gone. The other hump Ben is experiencing is the plateau of learning Hebrew. His comprehension has improved a lot, but he still feels tongue-tied when he wants to say something in Hebrew. I remember I felt that after I had been in Madrid for three months. After that, I didn't notice the language getting easier, but it did.

Ben has always been so independent. He loves his family but has always wanted to do things on his own and does not ask for help. I wish he would call us when he is feeling "nostalgic" or unhappy. It would help both of us. It helped me to talk to him.

Another thing...
Mikayla has blossomed into a full-blown senior, making the most of her last year in high school. She, too, has gotten so independent. I love how she fully enjoys whatever developmental stage she is at. She has never desired to be older than she is. Her grandfather Mort would be proud of her. She embodies the teachings of Mort's guru Ram Dass: Be Here Now.

And another thing...
I went to see Dr. G. in Tijuana yesterday. I was very happy to tell him that I am almost migraine free! I took 2 sick days for migraine in August, 1 in September and none in October. I no longer have weekend headaches, or Friday night headaches. I don't wake up with them. They do not sit behind my left eye like a dark shadow ready to pounce at anytime, holding me hostage. Once in a while, now, I get a twinge but it is so faint, it is little more than a memory.

Scott came with me this time. Dr. G. explained to Scott that he works on a cellular level, using my electro-magnetic field to determine what formulas I need. I will probably only have two more visits. I am so grateful to my friend who referred me to him. I really felt I was on a slope that was sliding down into the depths of disability. Three neurologists could not help me. Reading and researching migraines did not help. Acupuncture did not help. Chiropractic did not help. Dietary changes helped a little. The San Diego Union Tribune ran an article about alternative medicine last week and called homeopathy "quackery". Homeopathy has been around since the mid 1700's and is widely popular today in France, England, Germany, Greece, India, Pakistan, Brazil, Argentina, Mexico, and South Africa. Mother Teresa dispensed homeopathic medicine to the sick in Calcutta. It's side effects are minimal. I urge everyone to be open-minded about homeopathy.

The last thing...
I am leaving next Saturday to go to Victoria to see my friend Mary G. I have mixed feelings about going. I find it very difficult to write how I feel about going. I will leave this for another day.
