When my mom was sick I would take her for a drive everyday. We would go down Dallas Road along the ocean, around to Gonzalez Bay, and through the Uplands to admire all the mansions. We would stop to inhale the ocean breeze and it would rejuvenate her. Bill and I took Mary for the same drive. I don't know if she just wasn't feeling well, but it didn't seem to help her. She has been sitting in her chair most of the day.
I spent the whole day with Mary. Aside from the drive, we just did the regular stuff that fills days. We ate lunch, pet her dog, watched some TV, talked of politics and people and went for the drive. I felt comfortable just doing life with Mary.
Mary told me today that she has always had something to look forward to and that is what keeps her going. Lately it has been politics. Right now she is totally into the upcoming Liberal leadership convention where the delegates will pick their new leader. This person will become the next prime minister if the Liberals win at the next election. She has her favorite candidate and looks forward to watching him on TV whenever he is on. She will watch the convention in three weeks and hope that her guy wins. I wonder what she will look forward to after that.
Some of Mary's words I don't want to forget:
chock-a-block: The house is chock-a-block full of stuff.
foolscap: He wrote a long list on a piece of foolscap.
